Sénadé 9 months

This little video was made for our family in Togo. Merry Christmas! Watch it on You Tube for the full screen experience. (An English version may follow in the future, but you can still get a pretty good idea of Sénadé at 9 months old).

Happy Father's Day, Ada (Aja for Daddy)!

Unfortunately, our family was not together for Koudjo's first Father's Day! Sénadé and I were in MN for work and Koudjo was in Kansas/Missouri for work...for each our first work trip. But, as someone replied when I commented on him missing his first father's day, "there will be another one next year!"

Week 3...Getting out

This week Sénadé went on her first "real" outings (besides previous trips to the pediatrician and walks around the neighborhood): the DuSable Museum of African American History (she is, after all, an African American, in the truest sense of the word), the beach, the airport (twice!), and church.

She also had some very special visitors: Thora and Jennie Broyles came and stayed with us for a few days...Sénadé loved having Jennie hold her non-stop and be called "precious" more times than any of us can count.

And then, Grandma Gibson came and was finally able to hold her first grandchild, her namesake, Sénadé Claire.

From Day 1, Sénadé has had very alert eyes and intently stares at you.  She had staring contests with a couple boys from church (is that a bad sign?).  Here are a few favorite faces from this week (15 days old):
The end of Sénadé's first smile (non-sleep smile)- 15 days old
(Yes, we know babies usually smile their first smile around 6 weeks. However, on March 15th both Koudjo and I received a separate smile from Sénadé in response to us smiling at her.  Take it or leave it, but don't just don't attribute it to gas!)

Week 2...Let the joy continue

Sénadé is already growing up so quickly! She enjoyed her many visitors and all the oohs and aaahs she received. We enjoyed showing her off!  She also received her first bath at nine days old (finally!) and seemed to really like the water. We love seeing her sleep smiles, although unfortunately didn't capture any on camera.  We're enjoying being a family of three!

The rest of Week 1... a bit of a blur

Sénadé Claire Sodji

Born March 1, 2010 3:07 AM
8 lbs. 1 oz.
20.5 inches
Sénadé means "whatever we are given/whatever God gives." God has chosen to give us this beautiful, healthy daughter and we gratefully accept that which He has given us. This name was suggested by her paternal grandmother (Koudjo's mom). Claire means "bright" and it is our hope and prayer that our little girl will be a bright light and bring bright joy to those around her. Claire is Sénadé's maternal grandmother's name (Chrissy's mom).

Pronunciatio
n guide for Sénadé (also acceptable spelling, Senade): say-NAH-day (this is the closest we could come up with... if anyone is a good "phoneticist," we would love to have a more accurate transcription).
